Hi! My name is Emma Viglucci. I was born in Argentina with an Italian lineage. My parents moved our family to the US when I was 13 years old. They were no strangers to the immigrant status as my father had migrated from Italy as a young boy in the aftermath of WWII, and my mother’s parents had done the same. Assimilating the American culture as a teenage girl was not easy. The immigrant experience was pervasive. I managed and adjusted well though, doing terrific in H.S. and establishing myself as a very conscientious and driven young adult. I transitioned to college well. Education is highly valued in our family as that was one of the reasons for leaving Argentina in the first place. They wanted to provide my siblings and I with the opportunity of getting an education and being able to make a difference with it.

I was always super curious about how people operate, and how they succeed at their relationship and their life.

In H.S., I already knew I wanted to be a Therapist. I was always super curious about how people operate, and how they succeed at their relationship and their life… My experiences growing up, moving to this country, and embracing the new culture and way of being created a hunger and passion for learning more about the human condition.

In college, I met a handsome and very smart guy, who would eventually become my husband and partner in life. We were young. Our relationship was primarily characterized by a search for finding our way as young adults and growing up together. By trial and error, we had to learn how to create a loving, nurturing and supportive relationship dynamic that would pass the test of time. This early learning served as teacher and as well as my muse as I pursued my career. After college, and for close to 10 years, I held several positions in the Foster Care and Adoption field. During that time, I also went for my master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy where I discovered my passion for working with couples.

In 2000, I opened my private practice as a couples counselor in Manhattan. Soon after 911 and my mother’s diagnosis of ovarian cancer, we had our amazing daughter, our pride and joy. My Mom did not survive the disease, a loss that has been profound and permeates the thread of our family. For several years we tried to have another child, but eventually decided to let this dream go. During this period, my husband provided some assistance with technology aspects of the practice while he was changing careers paths. This was a challenging period in our lives that took its toll and tested our commitment to the relationship. I refused to allow this to have an irreversible impact in our marriage and did everything I knew how to turn us around. I must confess, I experienced devastating angst, pain and shame during this time. I experienced moments of feeling like a fraud, ambivalence about my path, and it made me question everything. Not only was I experiencing relationship pain, but it felt like my very Being was in question. This led to more personal growth work and searching.

I’m grateful for all my experiences, as painful as they were. They have helped awake, inspire and motivate me to fully embrace my life of Purpose.

Every cloud has a silver lining. As a result of this experience, my life makes more sense and has more meaning than ever before. My Mission as a couples counselor in Manhattan is to help couples create a strong and inspiring partnership to serve as role models of what is possible when they tap into their inherent synergy, including creating healthy and enriching homes for the future leaders of our world.

I’m grateful for all my experiences, even the painful ones. They have helped awaken, inspire and motivate me to fully embrace my life of Purpose.
